Year 3 & 4 Girls Football
In the heat of 23 degrees 11 of the Ribble Valley primary schools descended onto the 3G pitches at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School on Thursday 24th May. Leaders from Clitheroe grammar were a fantastic help, refereeing all the games and penalties. The teams were placed in 2 groups for the top 2 teams to qualify through to the semi-finals.
Many of the games resulted in a draw but some schools shone through with their winning goals. In group 1 St Marys Langho A team won 4 out of 5 matches placing them top of group 1. Waddington & West Bradford (WWB) won 2 of their 5 matches, placing them 2nd in group 1.
In group 2 Osbaldeston placed 1st with 2 wins and 2 draws. Salesbury placed 2nd with 1 win and 3 draws. Both semi-final games ended a draw and went to penalties, during the penalties Osbaldeston & St Marys Langho secured themselves a place in the final and Salebury & WBB played for 3rd or 4th place.
Placing 4th was Waddington WB as Salesbury (3rd) scored in the last 20 seconds of the match. The final game proved to be very tense for all the parents and teachers watching, as the 7 minutes drew closer, no goals were scored resulting in a penalty final.
Obaldeston won on penalties and St Marys Langho a very close 2nd place! Well done to Osbaldeston!!!
