The nights get longer and darker at this time of year but there is still plenty of light and sparkle in the Academy as students perform in our annual Christmas Cabaret! A staple of the Performing Arts calendar, it’s a showcase for dance and music across all three Key Stages, ably hosted by our sixth form drama students, with the usual side-splitting gags.
This year’s theme was “Seasons of Love” and opened with our choir, Vocal Adrenaline singing the song of the same name from the musical “Rent”. The audience were then treated to dances from “Chicago”, pieces choreographed by the students themselves in the style of Alvin Ailey, Street and Jazz as well as music ranging from Christmas classics such as “O Holy Night” and “Coventry Carol” to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”. Our Ukulele Club proved ever popular with their rendition of “Frosty the Snowman” and Vocal Adrenaline ensured everyone left in the festive spirit by closing the show with “Merry Christmas Everybody”!
Even at the interval the audience were entertained by our Steel Drum Band as they enjoyed refreshments. At the end of the night, the countdown to Christmas had well and truly begun so in the words of our hosts, we wish you a very Merry Christmas from everyone in the Performing Arts Department!
