This Year 8 class began the lesson analysing quotes about the soul, said or sung by various people ranging from Ghandi to Bob Marley and Victor Hugo to Ray Charles. Students were required to extract the meaning from the quotes and discern what the person believed about the soul from what they had said. For example, “it’s intangible”, “it’s powerful”, “it’s possible to lose it by compromising your values”.
On the basis of their analysis, the students were asked to write a personal reflection of what they believed a soul is. This super piece is what Marcus wrote. It shows a very mature ability to analyse, synthesise and personalise high level concepts and information with advanced religious and philosophical language. Take a bow Marcus Woodcock!
