The summer of cricket start off with the Girls Kwik competition held at Ribblesdale cricket club, 8 schools competed to become Girls cricket champions 2015 and earn there place in the Lancashire Cricket Boards finals day. The teams were split into 2 groups of 4 with the top 2 teams qualifying from the group stage into the semi final. Salesbury and Oakhill progressed out of Group A winning 6 points from a possible 9. In group B 3 teams won 2 games each meaning that it would come down to total number of runs scored in all 3 games, Benjamin Hargreaves scored 776 runs which meant they topped the group with Mellor in 2nd on 751 runs, narrowly missing out where clitheroe St James who scored 727 runs. Onto the semi final stage and it was Mellor who came out on top over Salesbury beating them by 47 runs while in the other semi final game Benjamin Hargreaves defeated Oakhill by 31 runs. Which meant we had a repeat of the earlier group stage games in both the Final (Benjamin Hargreaves vs. Mellor) and the 3rd/4th Place playoff (Oakhill vs. Salesbury). Both games would have different results to the group games with Salesbury beating Oakhill by 32 runs to finish third and Benjamin Hargreaves beat Mellor by 18 runs to take gold medals.
Onto the Hyndburn Competition held at Accrington Cricket Club in which 14 teams competed to become Hyndburn cricket champion for 2015. 4 groups would be played across 4 wickets with the top team progressing to the semi final stage. St Charles progressed out of Group A to play Benjamin Hargreaves in the first semi final while St Anne’s & st Josephs progressed to play Springhill in the second semi final. St Charles defeated Benjamin Hargreaves by 102 runs to play St Anne & St Josephs in the final as they beat Springhill by 29 runs. In the final St Charles scored 247 there lowest score of the competition so far however it was enough to take gold medals and first place as St Anne & St Josephs managed 213 meaning St Charles won by 34 runs. Springhill took third place beating Benjamin Hargreaves by 16 runs.
The ribble valley competition was held at Ribblesdale Cricket club and featured 15 teams split into 4 groups with the top team progressing onto the semi final stage. Group A saw Pendle win 3/3 to qualify with 9 points, Group B had Salesbury as the winners also with 9 points, in group C Whalley qualified with 9 points while Mellor progressed from group d with 6 points from there 2 games. The semi finals saw Pendle come up against Salesbury while Mellor took on Whalley. It would be Salesbury vs. Whalley in the final as both teams won there respective semi finals leaving Pendle and Mellor to play for third place which Mellor won in the play off. Onto the final and Salesbury came out on top with a very impressive display against Whalley.
Well done to everyone who took part in the days, the skills and technique on show where of real high quality. Good luck to Benjamin Hargreaves and Mellor who represent Hyndburn and Ribble Valley respectively in the Lancashire cricket board girls finals day held on Tuesday 23rd June at Unsworth Cricket Club, also good luck to St Charles (Hyndburn) and Salesbury (Ribble Valley) who compete in the year 6 finals day on Thursday 25th June at Northern Cricket Club.
