St Augustine’s hosted the Ribble Valley year 3/4 football competition in which 16 teams competed. There were 4 groups of 4 playing across 4 pitches with the top 2 teams qualifying to the quarter final, semi-final and final stages. Group A saw Brookside progress ahead of Oakhill via goal difference after both teams finished on 6 points, Waddington & West Bradford 4 points and St Marys Langho 1 point. Group B saw St Leonards Langho progress on 5 points along with Edisford on 4 points ahead of St Michael & St Johns 3 points and Clitheroe St James 2 points. Salesbury topped Group C on 7 points ahead of Gisburn who edged out Simonstone on 4 points and via goal difference and St Marys Osbaldeston B on 0 points. St Hubert’s were the only team with a 100% record after finishing on 9 points ahead of Whalley on 6 points, Balderstone on 3 points and St Marys Osbaldeston A on 0 points.
The quarter final stages were extremely close but the 4 teams progressing to the semi finals were Brookside, St Leonards Langho, Salesbury St Hubert’s. The semi-finals again saw close games with only 1 goal being scored by St Leonards against Brookside, the other semi-final finished 0-0 between St Hubert’s and Salesbury however the team from Great Harwood progressed after winning the penalty shootout. Salesbury quickly got over that defeat as they beat Brookside 1-0 to finish 3rd whilst in the final St Hubert’s were once again involved in a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw with St Leonards, however it was the school from Langho that won the shootout 2-1 to win the competition.
Once again this was a fantastic event supported by Lancashire PE Services Mike Caton, special thanks must go to St Augustine’s High School for not only hosting the competition but also providing 4 referees who was superb on the day. Thanks also to all spectators who came down to support.
