The first game of the season was an English cup game away in Skipton, this was a good chance for the squad to bind and understand each other’s ability. We also used this game as a trial game to rotate and give everybody a chance in their preferred positions.  We lost the game 3-1 but there were plenty of positives to take away from the match.

As the season progressed the squad grew stronger and gained more chemistry. This was evident in our performances in The North-West Central College League as we built our squad on a strong backline and played some great football from the back to the front. Throughout the season we developed into a squad which was hard to beat only ever losing by one goal in narrow 2-1 defeats against Nelson and Colne College who finished 1st and St Christopher’s who finished 2nd. Nelson and Colne College’s manager said we were the “Strongest and most hardworking team” they had played, regarding this was our first season in this division we equipped our self well. In the league we had convincing 3-1 and 2-1 victories along with a couple of draws in which we fought back to equalise late on, again showing our never give up attitude which was present throughout the season.

The high point of our season was in a cup game against Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar Sixth Form (BRGS). We went into the game as major underdogs with BRGS winning previous games 6-0 and 7-0. We defended well throughout the game until unfortunately conceding with 30 minutes left. After conceding the goal we began to play some better football, creating the majority of chances. We were rewarded with a last minute goal coming from Andy Benjamin following a goal mouth scramble which forced the game into extra time. Moving into extra time both sides began to tire and very few chances were created until an identical incident to the equaliser saw us steal the game in the final minute with a goal from Connor White, earning us a famous cup victory.

For our first season in the North-West Central College League we finished 4th. Given this was including a number of cancellations, I believe we may have finished higher if given the chance to play more games. Overall the season was a successful one with noticeable performances from goalkeeper Lewis Ware who had a number of Man of the Match awards for his important penalty saves, Andy Benjamin for his solid defensive performances and impressive goal scoring record from the back and also Corey Adams (Steel) for remaining solid in defence throughout the season and keeping his head when others lost theirs. The lads have been great this season and have given their all in every game.
