This year the influx of entries for the Years 3/4 Football competition meant we had to split the event into 2 separate competitions. The first event had 8 teams represent their schools. We split the teams into 2 groups which all competed for the top 2 places in their group. Playing 12-minute games the teams thoroughly enjoyed scoring lots of goals and the teams qualifying through to the Semi-finals were St Peter & Pauls V St Marys Clayton and St Marys Oswaldtwistle V Green Haworth. Gaining a victory and making it through to the semi finals both showing an excellent standard of play was St Peter & Pauls V St Marys Oswaldtwistle resulting in a very high standard final match!
The top 3 finishing positions were
1st St Peter & St Pauls
2nd St Marys Oswaldtwistle
3rd – St Marys Clayton
The second of the Hyndburn Year 3& 4 events had the best of the weather as the rain stopped for a while. Eleven teams were competing across two groups and the standard of play was a high as ever.
The winners of group one was St Andrews who played the runners up in group two who were Peel Park A. Runners up in group one was Mount Pleasant A who played winners of two St Bartholomew’s. St Andrews won their semi-final outright whilst the second semi-final went to the dreaded penalties which Mount Pleasant won 3 – 1.
The third and fourth place play off saw Peel Park take 3rd place. The final was an extremely close affair between Mount Pleasant A and St Andrews. St Andrews had beaten Mount Pleasant in the group stages but the final saw Mount Pleasant score an early goal to take the gold medals.
Well Done to both the winning teams and thank you to the Hyndburn Academy Sports Leaders & Young Referees that assisted with refereeing the games!
Eight teams attended the B team competition, with 4 teams in 2 different groups. The event took place at the fantastic new Ribble Valley 3G pitches, with excellent referring from the Ribblesdale Sports Leaders.
In the group stages each team played each other in 1o minute games, points were awarded for a win & a draw. The top 2 schools within each group went through to the semi-finals. Winning group A St Marys Langho and 2nd place St Leonard’s A team, winning group B Salesbury and 2nd place Waddington & West Bradford.
The result of the semi finals meant Salesbury & St Leonards had to go to penalties, these were very tense as all 7 players had to take a penalty, will St Leonard’s be taking the win on their last team players shot.
The final ended up St Marys Langho that had not yet lost a game V St Leonard’s Langho. Both teams played extremely well and for the 10-minute game both teams had some great opportunities, however at the final whistle it was still a draw resulting in penalties yet again.
St Mary’s yet again remained undefeated and won the title of Ribble Valley B team Champions. In 2nd place St Leonard’s & 3rd place Salesbury.
Well done & a massive thank you to the leaders from Ribblesdale.

The Hyndburn Girls football event was held at Accrington Academy on a beautiful crisp cold afternoon. The event was a great success and to see 14 girls’ teams enter the event was fantastic. The teams were split into 4 groups and the top team from each group qualified to the semi-final. For 3 groups the top teams were very clear, Peel Park A, Peel Park B & Belthorn. However, the Group B Green Haworth & St Anne & St Josephs had to play penalties to decide on the groups winning team.
Green Haworth succeeded and qualified through to the semi finals playing the Peel Park A team, The Peel Park B team played Belthorn. Peel Park had a repeat of last year and both the A & B team were victorious in their games resulting a Peel Park A V B final.
The A team showed their talents and conceded 2 – 0. Therefore, going through to represent Hyndburn in Girls County Football competition is the Peel Park A team as our Hyndburn Champions.
At this event we had the brilliant Accrington Academy Girls Football team to assist with the running of the event and referring all our games, their knowledge of the game and confidence they demonstrated was great to see and gave some of the primary children an aspiration as role models.
