Tuesday 5th July sees the annual instalment of our Staff vs Alumni football match where our teachers try their best to regain their youth against younger, stronger and more athletic ex-students!
This year, we will be raising funds and profile for a very special alumnus, Danny Cassidy, who has recently been diagnosed with acute & chronic leukaemia. Danny attended the Academy 2005-2010 and was an active member of lots of sports teams.
Hoping to see lots of alumni to play or support this event. We will serve food at the end of the match – all donations to the fund. We will have football cards, half-time crossbar challenge & buckets to raise as much as we can. 4.00 kick-off on the 3G pitch.
Danny, and his partner, Darcy Young (2005-2012) said,
Daniel Cassidy who attended Accrington Academy has grown to be an all round lovely man. He typically loves to socialise with his girlfriend, friends and family and enjoys the job he has been trained to do, when suddenly, through no fault of his own he has become ill. Dan began to have flu like symptoms however the pain of the aches in his muscles was uncontrollable. Once he was seen by the doctors it became clear it was something more than just the flu. His blood test came back and indicated that he had leukaemia. Dan has actually got both types of Chronic and Acute Leukaemia which has been said to have been unidentified for up to two years. Not only has his girlfriend, friends and family been shocked by the sudden diagnoses so have the nurses and doctors.
We urge everyone to have regular blood tests and check ups at your doctors as if we were to know this with Dan it may not have spread to both types. Dan is currently waiting for a bed at Christies to undertake his Chemotherapy. He is keen to spread awareness and support the charities involved with cancer. Cancer we’re coming to get you!
We certainly are, Cancer. Come and support us at the Academy 4pm 3G, Accrington Academy, Queens Road West, BB5 4FF. For further details, contact email@example.com
