Clitheroe Rugby Club was the host of the Ribble Valley Tag Rugby competition for 2015, 18 teams would battle it out to win the coveted crown of Ribble Valley Tag Rugby champions 2015 and a place in the Lancashire school games 2015 representing Ribble valley.

The teams were split into 4 groups playing across 4 pitches with the top team from each group progressing into the semi final. Group A would feature St Marys Langho, Grindleton, Edisford B, St Josephs Hurst Green and Salesbury A. Competing to progress from Group B was Simonstone, St Michael & St John’s, Edisford A and Salesbury B. Group C playing on pitch 3 were made up of St Nicholas, Gisburn B, Pendle, Mellor A and Waddington & West Bradford completing the groups were group D which was made up of Balderstone, Gisburn A, Brookside and Mellor B.

Group A saw St Josephs Hurst Green progress as group winners winning all 4 of their games scoring 23 tries in the process. Last year’s winners were into the semi final and looked strong to repeat the win of last year’s competition. Progressing out of Group B was St Michael & St John’s winning all 3 of their group games to progress with 9 points having scored 9 tries in their 3 group games beaten in the final last year could they go 1 better this time round.

Group C saw Pendle reach the semi final stage winning all 4 of their group games scoring 23 tries in the 4 games they played the highlight was the opening game vs. Gisburn which ended 6-4 to Pendle and the same scorline vs. Waddington & West Bradford. Group D was the closest group with only 2 points separating the top 2 however it was Brookside who finished in 1st place with 7 points just ahead of Gisburn with 5 points the highlight in this group was Brookside beating Balderstone 7-6.  A special mention to Balderstone who scored 18 tries in their 3 games in group D.

The teams all gathered in anticipation waiting for the draw for the semi final stage, St Michael & St John’s were drawn against Brookside while Pendle were drawn against St Josephs Hurst Green.  The games were fast paced with some great skill being shown. St Michael & St John’s came out on top in the 2nd Semi final beating Brookside 5-2. Semi Final 1 was a close and tense game, with the scores tied 3-3 at the end of the 8 minutes 2 minutes extra time would be required with Pendle scoring a last gasp try to win 4-3.

Onto the Final it was Pendle vs. St Michael & St John’s again it was a fast paced game with both teams looking to attack however it was Pendle who came out on top winning 5 tries to 3. In the 3rd/4th place playoff it was St Josephs who defeated Brookside. A brilliant competition with some brilliant Rugby skills on show. Well Done to Pendle who will represent the Ribble Valley in the Lancashire School Games.
