Ten primary schools competed in the Hyndburn Schools year 3&4 key steps gymnastics event that took place at Hollins High School on 9th February. Gymnasts competed in two disciplines – the floor and the vault and it was evident as the first gymnast took to the floor how high the standard was and how hard the gymnasts had been practising. Each team had 5 members who took part in each discipline and the overall scores were combined to make the team score.
The event was judged by officials from Ribble Valley Acrobatics Academy and Hollins High school and the overall results were as follows:
1st – Peel Park A (66 points)
2nd Benjamin Hargreaves A (63.3 points)
3rd Baxenden (62.9 points)
Ribble Valley Event:
It was another record year for entries in the Ribble Valley event with twenty eight teams entered in total. With that many teams, they were divided into three sittings with each team allocated a time to come and compete. As in the Hyndburn event, teams competed in both floor and vault events with judges from Ribble Valley Acrobatic academy and St Augustine’s High school.
The overall results were as follows:
1st – Salesbury (63.9 points)
2nd St Michael and St Johns (62.8 points)
3rd – Gisburn (59.6 points)
Peel Park winning for the second year running and qualifying for the Spar Lancashire School Games in Blackpool on July 4th along with Salesbury from Ribble Valley.
Jane Johnson – School Games Organiser for Hyndburn and Ribble Valley said “The gymnastics is always a favourite event of mine and it’s great to see the standard increase year on year – this is a testament to the work that both the school teachers and Ribble Valley Gymnastics Academy have been doing in our schools”
