Thursday 5th May was the date that children put their athletic abilities to the test in the Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley Quad kids’ competition held at Hyndburn Athletics Club. The competitors competed in 4 events on the track and in the field; Standing Long Jump, Vortex Howler Throw, 50m sprint and 400m run. Each athlete took part in all events and their scores calculated to provide an overall team score.
Hyndburn schools were the first to compete in the morning session with 12 schools taking part Sacred Heart, Huncoat, Hyndburn Park, St Bartholomew’s, Mount Pleasant, All Saints, Peel Park, St Anne & St Josephs, Moorend, Benjamin Hargreaves, St Charles and St Marys Clayton all battling to become Hyndburn champions 2016. The ability and passion shown by the young competitors was of a very high standard and the results showed that, however the top three were:-
- St Charles
- Benjamin Hargreaves
- Peel Park
Onto the Ribble Valley competition in the afternoon slot, 19 schools competed to become Ribble Valley champions 2016 including Brookside, St Marys Langho, Waddington & West Bradford A and B, Pendle, Balderstone, Brennands endowed, St Leonards Langho, Oakhill, Sabden, Grindleton, Edisford, St Joseph’s Hurst Green, Whalley, Read St Johns, Clitheroe St James, Salesbury A and B and finally Gisburn. Once again the ability was of a very high standard however the top three teams overall at the end was:-
- Edisford and Salesbury (Joint)
- St Leonards Langho
The event was a huge success mainly due to the help from Hyndburn athletics club – we couldn’t run these types of events without the help of local clubs such as themselves. Also thank you to St Christopher’s high school who provided young leaders for the day who did all of the scoring and officiating on each event.
