For one day only, all Year 7 pupils secured a place at Accrington Academy’s Junior University; their degree topic being ‘University’. In groups, the students were assigned a university and had to find out as much as they could about that particular institution. This culminated in a group presentation to their class, with the winning groups presenting to the rest of the year group. To help them with their quest we had contributions from our Alumni students about their university experience and what it is like for them. We also had a visitor from the University of Cumbria to run a myth-busting workshop and dispel any ‘untruths’ about university life. The question ‘do students sleep all day?’ arose in the true or false quiz that took place……. the answer to that was up for debate!
Our Sixth Form students were on hand to help out throughout the day and 5 formed the judging panel that chose the overall winning group. The deserved winners, Emily Rolfe, Keira-Leigh Nicol, Cameron Smith, Adam Shafaq, Aahil Sha, Charlotte Whewell, Maddison Ramsden and Kloe Shread led by Mrs Lovell, donned their caps and gowns and gave us an interactive and informative presentation about University College London. They received a trophy and will be visiting the University of Lancaster next term.
‘I really enjoyed the day it was very fun and educational.’ Charlotte Whewell 7 M-NSU
