On Friday 5th June it was the day of the orienteering competition. In the morning is was the secondary schools SEN competition and the primary schools competition in the afternoon session. The competitions were held at Wilson’s playing fields and featured woodland routes that the participants had to navigate in order to find all 20 controls in the quickest time possible.
The secondary schools competition saw the participants take part in numerous orienteering type activities to help develop the skills required for the competition. The highest placed Hyndburn School and the highest placed Ribble Valley School qualified for the Lancashire school games competition on 30th June in Blackpool.
Participants were split into pairs, (pair A, Pair B and Pair C) and once they set off they had 20 minutes to find as many controls as they could, if they finished after the 20 minutes then they incurred penalty points . It was Oakhill who were first back meaning they will represent the Ribble Valley and representing Hyndburn will be St Christopher’s narrowly beating Accrington Academy by 1 point.
The primary school competition saw 32 teams compete for the right to represent their borough against all the other teams from across Lancashire. A big thank you to Pendle Forest Orienteer’s who ran the event without you it wouldn’t be as successful and as popular an event as it is. Well done to all schools who took part and good luck to those schools representing their boroughs.
