On a bright and sunny Tuesday afternoon Rishton cricket club played host to 5 secondary schools from across Hyndburn and Ribble valley as their U13 Girls cricket teams competed to become champions for 2015 but also to represent their district at the Lancashire school games level three event in Blackpool on 30th June.
2 pitches were cut and marked out as each school played each other with 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. The highest placed team from each district progressed to the finals.
Both St Augustine’s and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School got off to fantastic starts winning their games by 41 and 102 respectively. They then met in the 2nd game with Clitheroe winning by just 10 runs, St Christopher’s won against Ribblesdale by 59 runs and Mount Carmel won their first game beating Ribblesdale by 53 runs.
Clitheroe Royal Grammar School would prove too strong in their remaining games winning them by 84 and 86 runs to win the competition and carry on the success of the winter competitions. Team Ribble Valley has a strong competitor making their way to Blackpool. Joining them from Hyndburn would be St Christopher’s as they beat Mount Carmel by 19 runs in the final game to finish third overall but highest finishing Hyndburn school.
Overall standings looked like this:-
- Clitheroe Royal Grammar School – 12 points
- St Augustine – 9 points
- St Christopher’s – 6 points
- Mount Carmel – 3 points
- Ribblesdale- 0 points.
