On Tuesday 19th May 5 secondary schools from the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley areas competed to qualify for the Level 3 Lancashire school games event.
The event was held at Wilson’s playing fields with help from Hyndburn athletics club and young leaders from Hollins Technology College. The 5 participating schools had selected 16 children (8 girls and 8 boys) to compete in a range of events such as 100m, 200, 800m, relay, javelin, long jump, shot-put and high jump. Once an athlete had completed an activity their scores were inputted into a database which gave them a point’s score and the school with the highest number of points at the end of each event would be declared the winners and progress to the county finals.
The 5 schools taking part where Accrington Academy, Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, Hollins Technology College, St Augustine’s and St Christopher’s. It was a very close event with only 39 points separating the top 2 and 45 points separating 3rd and 4th
