On Wednesday 18th May 6 secondary schools from the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley areas competed to qualify for the Level 3 Lancashire school games event.
The event was held at Wilson’s playing fields with help from Hyndburn athletics club and young leaders from Hollins Technology College. The 6 participating schools had selected 16 children (8 girls and 8 boys) to compete in a range of events such as 100m, 200, 800m, relay, javelin, long jump, shot-put and high jump. Once an athlete had completed an activity their scores were inputted into a database which gave them a point’s score and the school with the highest number of points at the end of each event would be declared the winners and progress to the county finals.
The 6 schools taking part where Accrington Academy, Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, Hollins Technology College, St Augustine’s, Ribblesdale and Oakhill. It was a very competitive event with lots of different schools winning events on both the track and in the field. The scores were all added up and the overall points were as follows:-

- Oakhill – 1155
- Hollins – 1336
