On Sunday 10th July the Accrington Academy Cheerleaders set off to Sheffield English Institute for Sport to compete in the British Cheerleading Association’s Northern Schools and Summer Fiesta Allstar competition where schools and clubs competed together.

The 40 students had been split up into 2 categories all year and trained on a Tuesday or a Friday after school. The sparks team competed at Junior Level 1 and the Allstars competed in Junior Level 3 division. The increase in levels increases the difficulty of the tumbling, the height of the stunts and pyramids.

We also took two group stunt teams which consists of 5 cheerleaders throwing stunts for 1 minute and 15 seconds that students had developed themselves.

The day was a success with all teams performing their routines on a fully sprung floor in front of American judges. The Academy feedback was that the showmanship in routines was fantastic, and this was shown in the first place trophy and two second place trophies that the teams brought home. The team work shown by the students and the support for each other made us very proud to be wearing the Academy cheer kit.
