Did you know that by 2020, there will be an additional 55,000 jobs open in the digital sector? Neither did we! The world around us is uncertain and constantly changing. Technology use is on the up and it’s important that as young people, we gain the knowledge and skills now which prepare us for the digital world moving forward. Lloyds Bank has partnered with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and hosted a group of Accrington Academy’s year 10 students who attended #Discoveryourdigitalfuture. Lloyds prides itself on being the biggest digital bank, serving more than 12 million customers online daily. It’s this that has driven the bank to partner with MMU to showcase the importance of digital skills in tomorrow’s workplace. Students were able to attend a number of sessions run by some big players in the tech sector; with Lloyds, Microsoft, IBM, Facebook and Apadmi hosting a number of activities. As part of the sessions, students were able to experience some of the latest and greatest pieces of tech – we even managed to nab some time on the virtual reality system and get up close and personal with a dinosaur! By far one of the coolest pieces of tech we got to see was the vision-controlled computer system. Lloyds were showcasing how the computer can track your eye movements to control the mouse!
