Key Stage 1 pupils from 30 school teams in Hyndburn and Ribble Valley took part in 2 separate Kurling competitions. The Ribble Valley event took place at St Augustine’s high school while Hyndburn schools took part in a competition at Accrington Academy.

In the Ribble Valley competition Grindleton, Brennands Endowed, Simonstone x2, Gisburn x2, St Wulstans x2, Brookside, Clitheroe St James, St Leonards Langho x2, Salesbury x2, St Joseph’s Hurst Green and Balderstone would all take part. The teams where split into 4 groups of 4 with the top 2 teams qualifying for the quarter final stages and then if you won them games you progressed onto the semi-final stage. The teams who achieved this would be Salesbury Red, Salesbury Blue, Clitheroe St James and St Wulstans A. In the final it would be a Salesbury vs Salesbury clash as blues played off against reds, leaving St Wulstans and Clitheroe St James to compete in the third/4th place playoff for the Bronze medals, winning them would be St Wulstans. In the final Salesbury Blue won gold medals as they overcame Salesbury Reds who went home with 2nd place and silver medals.

In the Hyndburn competition again 4 groups with the top 2 qualifying from each group to the quarter final stage. The teams competing for a medal were St Charles A, Peel Park B and St Marys Clayton A who formed Group A, Group B was made up of St Charles B, Peel Park A and St Anne & St Josephs A. In group C St Bartholomew’s A, Benjamin Hargreaves B, West End A and St Anne & St Joseph’s B, the final group, group D was made up of St Bartholomew’s B, Benjamin Hargreaves A, West End B and St Johns Great Harwood. In the Quarter final stages it would see Peel Park A beat St Charles A, Peel Park B overcame St Anne’s & St Josephs A, St Bartholomew’s A were beaten by West End B while St Johns Great Harwood overcame St Anne & St Joseph’s B. The draw for the semi-finals were made which set up a Peel Park clash as A played B and West End B versus St Johns Great Harwood. Peel Park B managed to overcome their fellow school mates however it was very close with an extra round required to decide a winner in the other semi-final West End B beat St Johns Great Harwood. The 3rd/4th place playoff game saw St Johns Great Harwood take third place beating Peel Park A who finished fourth, the Final saw Peel Park B beat West End B to take Gold medals leaving West End B with Silver medals.
