Author Andy Briggs dropped in to Accrington Academy this week, wowing students with his adventures and exciting new book, Drone Racer.

A screenwriter, graphic novelist and author, Andy has been involved in such movie projects as ‘Judge Dredd’ and ‘Foreverman,’ worked on TV projects for Syfy, Netflix, ITV and Amazon and landed an eight-book deal with Oxford University Press.

His latest work, Drone Racer, is an action-packed novel that brings drone racing to life, telling the story of Carson and his friends, who love racing drones and can’t believe their luck when they stumble across a discarded one at a junkyard.

During his visit to the academy on Tuesday 8th November, Andy entertained Year 8 students with tales of his life adventures and career. Students were also able to purchase his new book and have it personalised and signed by the author himself.

The event was the latest in a programme of author visits at the academy organised by Learning Resource Centre Manager Miss Pollard, with other visits including appearances by football writer Ben Lyttleton and Joseph Delaney, creator of the popular ‘Spooks’ series.

Commenting on the visit, Accrington Academy’s Head of School Nicola Palmer said:

“This program of authors’ visits is another example of our ongoing commitment to provide our students with an #EducationwithCharacterand we’re very grateful to Andy for taking the time to meet with our Year 8 students, who were really enthused by the experience.”
