Tonight saw the annual alumni vs staff football match at the Academy. Students from every year since we started the Sixth Form returned to the Academy to play a team of current (and ex- thanks Mr Hands!) staff. A brilliant turnout of supporters and players, the match was a roaring success. A hat-trick in his ‘farewell’ game from Matt Fearon secured a 3-2 win for the staff against younger, fitter and more able footballers! What was it they keep saying about Welsh team spirit?!

The most important part of the evening was that we did it in aid of a very special young man, Danny Cassidy, who has recently been diagnosed with acute & chronic leukaemia. Danny attended the Academy 2005-2010 and was an active member of lots of sports teams. The event was also supported by lots of Danny’s friends and family who took part in a special ‘Crossbar Challenge’ at half-time too. Final figures will come through in due course but it is expected to have raised well over £300. Great effort from all involved.
