Organised by Hyndburn Leisure and held at Accrington Town Hall, the awards were sponsored by local business and presented by Winter Olympics star Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards.
Accepting the Academy’s award as Secondary School of the Year were the academy’s Head of PE Mrs Mrs Tahraoui, PE teacher Miss Lawson and Mrs Johnson School Games Organiser for the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley School Sports Partnership.
The award was in recognition of the academy’s participation in the Youth Sport Trust’s School Sports Ambassador scheme, actively working alongside other Ambassador schools nationally to promote physical activity and sport for young people.
Accrington Academy also has strong links with a range of local clubs local including Accrington Stanley, Boxing ABC, Netball Now Hyndburn Leisure Centre, Pioneers ’79, Bredakwai Judo Club, Enfield Cricket Club, Masters of Martial Arts, Freerunning and Accrington Tennis Club.
Accrington Academy is committed to providing an education with character, an important part of which is our ongoing engagement with local sporting organisations, including active participation in sporting events and initiatives such as the School Sports Ambassador scheme.
