On Tuesday 10th May children from 3 schools took part in a football competition to win the right to represent their district at the Level Three Lancashire School Games. Accrington Academy last year’s winners, St Augustine’s last year’s runners up and Broadfield new entrants for this year would all be competing to try and win the U13 champions title.
Accrington Academy started the competition vs St Augustine’s. It was the Hyndburn school who took control and eventually won the game, St Augustine’s then played new comers Broadfield in a closely matched game with both sides creating chances and the game eventually finishing 1-1.
Onto the final game and if Accrington Academy avoided defeat they would progress to the Lancashire School Games final days in Blackpool, if Broadfield won it would be them who progressed. It was a very nervous and close game but once Academy scored early in the 2nd half they began to take control and quickly scored again to win the game.
So for the second year in a row Accrington Academy who finished first would represent Hyndburn and St Augustine’s who finished third would represent Ribble Valley. Broadfield who finished second would leave with silver medals.
A great competition with some great individual performances and teamwork on show. Nice to see so many faces smiling and enjoying playing football.
