Accrington Academy

I feel very privileged to have started my teaching career at Accrington Academy. Throughout my ITT placement and ECT years, I received incredible support that helped shape me into the teacher I am today. The Academy’s strong culture of professional development has offered me a wide range of CPD opportunities and encouraged me to complete my NPQ qualification.

My journey with Accrington Academy began when I was a student at Accrington Moorhead High School. Being from the local area, I’ve always felt a close connection to the school. I had the opportunity to return in 2022 because I wanted to give back to the community and make a difference. For me, it felt like a second ‘homecoming’ due to the strong bond I have with the school.

Accrington Academy is a vibrant and forward-thinking school with friendly staff and children that are willing to learn and make a difference. The Mathematics Department that I work in has become my second little family where there is always a culture of learning & support, and more importantly, my days at Accrington Academy echo with nothing but joy and pride.

The Academy is evolving to become a beacon of best practice within the local area, supporting our students, their families and working with a local network of external stakeholders to ensure students also have the opportunity to develop outside of the classroom. 

We are actively encouraged to prioritise our selfcare and wellness through initiatives such as Westfield Heathcare and Wellness Days. There is a real sense of team spirit right across the board, SLT, teaching staff and support staff are all considered an integral part of TeamAA. I have always felt supported and valued as an employee, something which I am truly appreciative of.
