Admissions

All places at Accrington Academy are free of charge and open to students of all abilities and all faiths. There is no selection by either ability or by aptitude for the specialisms (mathematics and sport). The only children who merit absolute priority are prioritised in the Admissions Criteria.

How to Apply

If you would like to apply for a place for your child in Year 7 at Accrington Academy, parents/carers must complete the online Lancashire Common Application Form  published by Lancashire County Council. Information regarding the completion of the form can be obtained from your child’s primary school or from the council offices.  Parents will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application.

If you would like the Academy to have further information that would support your Child’s application to the Academy then please download and complete the Academy Supplementary Form opposite and return it to the Academy by 31st October 2015.
 
This form is a supportive document;  please make sure you also fill in the Lancashire Common Application Form.

Admission Criteria

Where the number of applications for admission to Year 7 is greater than the published admissions number, applications will be considered against the admission criteria.

Year 7 to start September 2015

The Published Admissions Number for Year 7 for 2015/16 intake at Accrington Academy is 200.  The criteria will be applied in the following order:
  • Those with a statement of special educational needs which names Accrington Academy.
  • Children who have previously been or are in public care (children looked after.)
  • Children who have specific medical needs, social needs and special needs.
  • Children with siblings at the Academy (the term sibling meaning either a full, half, step, adopted or fostered brother or sister living at the same address).
  • Children who received education in a school that is within the linked learning family federation of school for United Learning.
  • Children who live the nearest distance from the Academy.

Year 7 to start September 2016

The Published Admissions Number for Year 7for 2016/17 intake at Accrington Academy is 200.  The criteria will be applied in the following order:

 Waiting List and Appeals Process

If you are unsuccessful in being allocated a place at Accrington Academy you will be placed on our waiting list. This list is ranked according to the same criteria as those used for admissions. You will be asked to notify us that you wish to be held on this list and will be contacted directly once a place is available. You may appeal against our decision not to offer you a place and must do so in writing to the admissions officer within 14 days of being notified that you have not been offered a place. An independent appeal panel will hear your appeal.

Once you have completed an appeal form you should return it to us here at the Academy.

In Year Admissions

If you wish to apply for a place at Accrington Academy for Year 7 after December 31st 2015 or in any other year group, please contact the Academy to enquire if there are any places available. If the year group is full, then you will be added to the waiting list for the relevant year group. The waiting list is compiled in accordance with the Academy Admissions Policy.
 
The Academy Admissions Policy places great emphasis upon family values and equity. The admissions applications will be considered against the admissions criteria for the current year in which you are applying to join the school.
 
The Academy’s in year appeals process is managed by Lancashire County Council and is completely independent of the Academy. If you wish to appeal for a place in a year group that is full then please contact the local area access team at the following address:
